Welcome to the fourth quarter issue of Wood News

This year has been a challenging one and we continue to face a tough business environment. I know I had a lot more fun being CEO in 2008 than I did in 2009 and suppose many of you may feel similarly about your own positions.

I am pleased to report that we have continued to invest to support our strategic objectives of extending our services and broadening our geographic presence. Our acquisition of Baker Energy was a key strategic move that gained us a market-leading position in deepwater operations support and strengthened our presence in Africa and Asia Pacific. In the US Gulf of Mexico we are now the largest provider of operations & maintenance services.

We were honoured with a variety of awards throughout the year. Among those is Control Engineering magazine's 2010 System Integrator of the Year, which was awarded to Mustang's Automation and Control business unit. A leading systems integrator, Mustang Automation and Control specialises in providing engineering, specification, integration and implementation of control, automation, and information systems. More information about the services provided by the Automation and Control business and its people is in the article The growth of Automation and Control at Mustang.

Training, competency and safety have become ever more important and a series of acquisitions has helped to expand our services in those areas. The article Training, investing in your personnel highlights our flexible local training solutions and nationalisation programmes offered throughout the world.

I appreciate your support throughout the year and look forward to working with you in 2010. In the meantime, have a safe and happy New Year.
