Global Agreement with BP focuses on quality and performance

BP has recognised the capabilities of our subsea and pipeline specialist, J P Kenny (JPK), by awarding us a Global Agreement* for which we will be providing engineering and project management services (EPMS) for BP's subsea facilities projects over a six-year period.

A performance-based relationship

The Global Agreement enables JPK and BP to build a collaborative performance-based relationship, which will benefit from standardisation, knowledge transfer & implementation of a 'lessons learnt' programme. With the growing global demand for hydrocarbons the agreement ensures longer term value for both BP and JPK, supporting a culture of quality, continuous improvement and cost benefits.

"This agreement gives us access to a solid foundation of high calibre projects," said Steve Wayman (CEO), "It adds value to the process of successful project delivery by addressing issues such as cost inflation, equipment & services, long lead times and competition for the best suppliers."

He adds, "The long term arrangement enables us to work collaboratively with our client to achieve a step change in business performance. It means that projects can be planned better and by adopting a highly standardised approach, can result in significant cost savings, better resource utilisation as well as accelerated learning and successful technology development."

Opportunities for staff development

Around 200 of JPK's employees are currently engaged in BP work around the world. For JPK the agreement provides opportunities for staff development through the successive phases of projects and the chance to work in high performing integrated project delivery teams. It also enables continuous performance improvement from project to project.

Prestigious projects

"Since signing this agreement our work with BP has grown," explains Steve, "We are most active in Angola, the Gulf of Mexico, Norway and the Caspian region, all of which are witnessing a significant increase in activity. Our teams are growing to meet the demands of deepwater projects such as BP Puma and other Gulf of Mexico tie backs, the Angolan Programme and Shah Deniz in the Caspian Sea, offshore Azerbaijan. Both the latter projects are amongst the most prestigious projects in these regions."

BP predicts that its deepwater subsea production will represent a significant growth volume of its overall production in the next 5-10 years and has set up three Global Agreements to deliver its subsea EPMS requirements. As a Global Agreement supplier, JPK is applying its experience of deepwater projects & technical innovation around the globe to help BP deliver safe facilities with high operating efficiency throughout field life.

  • *The Global Agreement is a frame agreement that allows BP to efficiently place call off contracts on the majority of its subsea projects with J P Kenny and two other contractors.
